Zaterdag 29 juli speelde The Who het laatste concert van de Europese tour in het Spaanse Zaragoza.

De band neemt nu even een pauze en begint in september aan de Amerikaanse tour. Op 12 september speelt de band in het Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, een dag later in Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh en o.a.ook twee avonden in Madison Square Garden in New York op 18 en 19 september. Release "An Ox's Tale": 28 augustus

De documentaire "An Ox’s Tale" over John Entwistle zal, zoals het er nu naar uit ziet, uitgebracht worden op 28 augustus. Dit meldt Eil.com. De DVD omvat het leven van John, vanaf zijn eerste optreden op 14-jarige leeftijd tot zijn dood in 2002 en bevat o.a. het laatste interview met John en een interview met zijn zoon Chris, "The Last Time I Saw Dad".

Als extra’s nog opnames van de John Entwistle Band in Detroit (1999) en John Entwistle home movies. Een klein voorproefje is hier te zien.

"Top Gear"

Vanavond was The Who te zien in het Engelse autoprogramma "Top Gear". De drie presentatoren van de show namen de rol van roadie op zich en sleepten een dag lang met flightcases tijdens de show in Hyde Park. Het gehele stukje duurde ongeveer 5 minuten en zal nog terug te zien zijn op de site van "Top Gear". Hier kun je ook een gedeelte zien.

Following on from our story about Roger Daltrey at the tailors we hear that his late bandmate Keith Moon also had a thing for them. Keith used to go into a tailor’s with a friend and ask if he could "test the fabric’s strength". Keith and his friend would then hold up a pair of trousers and rip off one of the legs.

Then, just as the tailor was getting apoplectic, another mate would walk into the shop, shout "perfect!" And show the tailor that he only had one leg.

Madrid (27 juli)

Gisteren speelde The Who in de Olympic Hall in Madrid volgens Pete “the best show of our entire NEW career”. Het was de eerste keer dat de band in Spanje optrad.

Tijdens de webcast van “In The Attic” speelde Pete “The Acid Queen” en “Sensation“. Op zijn website schrijft hij nog wat over de zogenaamde “problemen” tussen hem en Roger: “I suppose I should have expected some discourse in Who chatrooms and Blogs about my recent diary postings, but NME and Rolling Stone? It’s Lebanon and Israel who are “at war” – not Roger and Pete. Roger and I are in full accord about our lack of accord. Always have been“.

"Quadrophenia" dubbel-DVD release

Universal Pictures brengt op 7 augustus een “special edition” DVD uit van de film “Quadrophenia”.

Quadrophenia,based on The Who’s seminal rock opera from the early 1970s presaged the mod revival of late 70s Britain. It introduced a new wave of Britactors, including Phil Daniels, to audiences and has proved to be aninspiration to scores of bands, film-makers and British youth eversince. It is safe to say that, without Quadrophenia, there would have been no Britpop! This truly is a landmark British film.

Pete: "We have a famous Who stalemate".

Pete heeft weer een stukje op zijn website geschreven. Hij is momenteel bezig met het mixen van de laatste nummers van de nieuwe plaat en “it’s starting to sound pretty good“. Daarnaast geeft hij een beetje af op Roger, omdat hij een vorm van betaling wil zien “for exhibiting (or should I say exploiting) his magnificent image and vocals“. Roger is er van overtuigd dat het internet niet echt iets kan bijdragen aan hun carrière en Pete heeft geen zin om nog extra tijd en geld er in te steken. “I may webcast some Who shows and not show Roger at all. Only kidding. For now we have a famous Who stalemate“.

Pete roept de fans dan ook op om Roger te mailen op thegreatevilweb@hotmail.com. Na de twee shows in Spanje zal ook de website aangepast worden en Pete hoopt dat Roger ook zijn financiele steentje zal bijdragen. “Again, your emails to urge him on could be useful. If you feel you can live without a Who website (and there are a good number ofwonderful fan-run sites and chat-rooms) then you could say so. But if you feel the Who site has some special value to you, and you would like to see more about (and from Roger), then let us know“.

UPDATE (18:30): Pete heeft zojuist op zijn site bekend gemaakt dat de mailbox vol is. “I don’t think I need any more opinions. Of the 250 MB of emails only two were negative about getting ‘free stuff’. I will take a selection of these and print them up for Rog so we can discuss this“.

Vandaag zit de band in het Duitse Ulm, waar de band zal optreden op de Munsterplatz. Tijdens "In The Attic" zei Pete dat de band ’s avonds een nummer zou gaan spelen dat ze nog nooit eerder gespeeld hadden. Manager Bill Curbishley was overigens de gast. Tijdens "My Generation" zong Roger enkele regels uit "Cry If You Want".

"Day to breathe… mountain air"

Pete heeft weer een stukje in zijn dagboek geschreven. Wat het mixen van de nieuwe plaat betreft, ligt hij erg achter op schema. Hij heeft nu een nieuwe mobiele studio laten aanrukken naar Frankrijk, waar hij de komende weken verblijft. Tussen de shows door gaat hij daar het album mixen.

Over de shows is hij erg te spreken: "The shows are all pretty great. I am playing well and everyone is inthe groove, Zak seems suddenly a bit tired, but maybe thatxe2x80x99s becausehexe2x80x99s young and in love xe2x80″ or something!  Roger didnxe2x80x99t wear his granny glasses last night, an looked younger forso doing, but claims he was blind. He didnxe2x80x99t see that beautiful Swissgirl who raised her T-Shirt andxe2x80xa6xe2x80xa6 only joking"

Wat betreft de "In The Attic" shows gaat er hoogstwaarschijnlijk een en ander veranderen.  Niet alles zal meer gratis te zien zijn. Sinds het concert in Hyde Park in zijn geheel op de website te zien was, is er zo’n 3 miljoen minuten aan materiaal gestreamd. Dat heeft Pete allemaal uit eigen zak gefinancierd. Roger, iemand die vorig jaar pas leerde hoe een mobiele telefoon werkt en geen computer heeft, heeft zo zijn bedenkingen over het gratis tonen van beeldmateriaal. Hij denkt dat hij als het ware "gebruikt" wordt en zou graag een deel van de winst willen zien. Welke winst, vraagt Pete zich dan ook af, als alles voor het goede doel bestemd is. Dus wanneer we Rachel en co tijdens de Amerikaanse tour willen volgen, zal er waarschijnlijk betaald moeten worden. "Rachel wore a designer nappy last night she calledxe2x80x98Bloomersxe2x80x99. They call it fashion. Humph. I promise you she looks betterin her bra and knickers". Ook is Pete door "In The Attic" wat dapperder geworden om tijdens zijn "Donovan" spot wat andere nummers te proberen, dan alleen maar "Drowned" en "I’m One". Zo speelde hij al "Greyhound Girl" en de lange versie van "Endless Wire".

Nyon (20 juli)

Gisteren speelde de band weer in Zwitserland.
