Long Beach (26 februari)

Pt270207Gisteravond speelde The Who in de Civic Arena in Long Beach. Pete droeg "Man In A Purple Dress" op aan Britney Spears.

"The show was brilliant, one of thebest Who concerts I’ve seen since 2000. Judging by Fresno and LongBeach this leg of the tour is going to be very, very good. Reno seemsto have been a warmup session, they shook the dust off that night andwere at full power by the time they got to Fresno, which as I said wasa smoking-hot concert. Anyone who doesn’t have tickets to the upcomingshows is a fool".
"The big surprise and highlight of the show was the welcome inclusion of Naked Eye in the encore. Rog dedicated it to some familiar faces in the audience, and thanked them for the support, but stated that it was for everyone. A great version that started with just Roger on acoustic, playing and singing the first verse and then was given the full blown electric treatment by the band for the rest of the song"
"Naked Eye was just brilliant. As a result the encore had a whole different vibe and energy and really soared. Amazing Journey was spellbinding and so in the flow. See Me has a nice bounce to it as Zak has been on fire since YB, YB other than the idiosyncratic and curious WGFA"

Fresno (25 februari)

Gisteravond trad The Who op in het Save Mart Center in Fresno.

"Lighting, sound and production were stellar. Townsend is quite the MCand jokester on stage"
"Daltrey only spoke at the end of the encore set and said "Thank You".Pete talked about Fresno and the band had not played here since 1968with Quicksilver Messenger Service"
"Townshend talked about Baba O’Riley being the most recieved song theband does. He said "Lots of teenagers were wasted back in the day, those teenagers are probably dead now and it wasn’t by car crashes andnatural causes.""
"At the end of the show, Pete takes the acoustic guitar and mimicssmashing it on his head. The electricy of seeing this band for thefirst time and having played all of their songs in rock radio – I wasblown away and their agility, energy and passion for rock and roll. My18 year old son was with me, who is a classic rocker and we both agreeThe Daltrey-Townsend Band rocks

Pete: "I wanted Roger to love Endless Wire"

"I wanted Roger to love this new record. I wanted him to love it more than fans", zegt Pete. "Roger hasn’t submitted songs tothe ‘pool’ what happened was that I gave him a group of songs and heresponded to each one on its own merits with respect to his needs as asinger. Songs he didn’t like, he would not reject outright, but we would talk about whether we really needed to force them through".

Over John Entwistle:

"John told me he was nervous aboutgiving his songs to Roger. So I’m not sure how his material would haveworked on "Endless Wire." He did not hear any of the songs. John would have added what he always did to my music, his depth andharmonic richness of sound, his eloquence and humour as a player(musically), and his fluidity he was such a vital part of the old Whosound as exemplified on "Quadrophenia," in my opinion the only Whorecord to capture him partly because I produced it".

Over Zak en Pino:

"I’m not looking for replicators. Ithink Roger prefers a Keith Moon style, whereas I luxuriate in drummerswho don’t sound like Keith so much. I spent too long keeping time for him when he should have beenkeeping time for me. I like the balance Zak brings. I get the best ofboth worlds. Pino doesn’t go near John’s style, and I’m happy aboutthat. He is a superbly gifted and creative player my No. 1 choice ofbass player for my solo work, and for the Who too now I know he can getcomfortable"

Over de setlist en eventuele wijzigingen:

"We play some old classics andabout ten songs from the new record. We know lots of songs, but Rogerdecides what goes into the list, and we tend to get stuck with the samelist of songs for years at a stretch. He’s not keen on taking chances, and to be honest I only like to do that outside the Who, not inside it. What we have   works"

Events Center, Reno (23 februari)

Reno Gazette-Journal: "The Who rocks, but with too much new stuff"

Reacties van fans:
"Rabbit looked a bit haggard, understandable given the stress he has been under, but he was smiling and seemed to be enjoying playing"
"Relay took the spot of You Better You Bet tonite, and it was a real treat. An absolutely blinding version. Only problem that towards the end, Pete gave it to Rabbit for a Hammond solo and he was buried too low in the mix to really hear it. Nonetheless a highlight of the night and a welcome addition back into the set"
"My Generation and the Cry If you want jam were high energy after Relay, and Pete did an improv vocal about pills, dancing all night, taking too many pills, and bringing it back around by reminding the audience that that sort of behavior will make you Cry…. Cry If You Want. Pretty fantastic stuff"
"A great gig with a sort of rehearsal vibe due to the location and venue, which was pretty small"

Beeldmateriaal Cow Palace 1973

Pete is in ieder geval enthousiast over "The Method":

"There is a lot of excitement among the web-savvy insiders at Eelpie. In April we plan the launch of the Lifehouse Methodwebsite. This is a site you will go and visit, log on, and afterentering some simple facts about yourself, and doing some simple tasks, will receive your very own, exclusive and unique piece of music. Onethird of the copyright in this piece will belong to you. If by somemiracle it got used for a TV commercial for Coca-Cola you would be ableto buy yourself a new hybrid biodegradable car. The first piece ofmusic we generate for you will be completely free. Along with this sitewe are launching an iTunes collection of some wonderful elaborations ofearly Method experiments by Lawrence Ball. Lawrence is the co-writer of Fragments on the latest Who album Endless Wire. Of course, Lifehouse Method was what back in 1971 I described to the Who as ‘Barrel Two’ of the Lifehouse (Who’s Next) project I was working on for the band. ‘Barrel One’ was the fiction, a simple and naiive film script later realized as radio play in Lifehouse Chronicles."

"Attic Jam" in Joe's Pub

Ptlr220207_1Gisteravond vond er in "Joe’s Pub" in New York weer een "Attic Jam" plaats. Pete speelde o.a. "The Acid Queen", "The Real Me", "Drowned" en "Won’t Get Fooled Again".

Met hem speelde Pete een mini-set van 3 nummers, "I’m Waiting For The Man", "White Light / White Heat" en "Pale Blue Eyes".

"It was good to be a part of last nightxe2x80x99s Attic Jam at Joexe2x80x99s Pub in NewYork. I played at least one song with all the artists except Rachelxe2x80x99sco-host Jimmy Fallon. I played proper music with Rachel Yamagata,Rachel Fuller, Amos Lee, J-Mascis and Lou Reed. They are all realmusicians, and great songwriters. It was particularly good to work withLou for the first time; I love his music. He downplays his guitarplaying, but we meshed perfectly. There was real magic"

aldus Pete op zijn weblog.

De New York Post en Rolling Stone hebben artikelen over de Attic Jam.

"Mascis played a set of Dinosaur Jr. tunes, before bringing Townshend out for the closer. xe2x80x9cIxe2x80x99m a little surprised J. wanted to play this one,xe2x80x9d Pete said, before singing the opening of xe2x80x9cSee Me, Feel Me,xe2x80x9d which caused the entire audience to go absolutely ballistic. Before the crowd calmed down, Pete launched into his own set. He opened with an intense version of xe2x80x9cThe Acid Queen,xe2x80x9d also from Tommy. He then moved on to Quadrophenia, playing frenzied versions of xe2x80x9cThe Real Mexe2x80x9d and xe2x80x9cDrownedxe2x80x9d that nearly caused diehard Who fans standing by the bar (some even wearing nametags listing their message board nicknames) to orgasm collectively. The only way to up the energy from that was to play xe2x80x9cWonxe2x80x99t Get Fooled Again,xe2x80x9d which he promptly did. The four song set was the single greatest solo acoustic performance Ixe2x80x99ve ever witnessed"
