The Who op benefietconcert Michael J. Fox

Op woensdag 5 november zal The Who optreden tijdens een speciaal benefietconcert voor de Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson. Onder de noemer A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s wordt een en ander georganiseerd in het Waldorf Astoria in New York.

"Because we were going to Japan, we thought rather than come from England and go East, let’s go West. Maybe we can do Michael’s show, do a few shows to pay for us to get over there — and that’s how the whole thing’s come together. It was all basically built around doing that charity", aldus Roger.

Fanreview Kilburn/Coliseum DVD

"I listened to only ‘Dreaming from the Waist’ on disc 1: Roger missed part of an early verse and Pete pronounced it a "steaming pile" but John was on fire the whole song. Checking out the London Coliseum 1969 show on disc 2: the main track list is a selection from the show: the bonus feature is the complete unedited performances (with Pete’s introductions) of ‘A Quick One’ and ‘Tommy.’

We all know the filming of London was rather underexposed so in the main feature on disc two it appears those numbers that suffered the worst or had audio glitches are edited or not included (most of Tommy is not in the main feature). In the bonus section both operas are complete even with the really really dark portions, film scratches, missing shots (audio intact), reel lead-in noise, etc. Pete’s introductions are longer in the bonus segment as well. Amazing Journey and Sparks are incindiary!"

"
Although the Coliseum concert film includes the best material interms of lighting quality and coverage that could be taken from thenight’s performance, the WHO’s declared purpose in selecting OperaHouse venues was to showcase their two conceptual pieces – ‘Tommy’ and’A Quick One.’ They played them right through as a whole without abreak, an innovative step  in live rock.
Out of respect for this powerful piece of music history the followingexcerpts present the complete live performances of the mini opera ‘AQuick One’ and the classic rock opera ‘Tommy’ as they were originallyperformed live that magical night at the Coliseum. Each piece iscarefully set up by Pete Townshend so we will not to presume to add tohis amusing and fascinating introductions.
The lighting goes in and out of full coverage and in order to maintaincontinuity with the music performance, stylized footage has beeninserted in the few places where the film went black or there weremissing camera reels. Also during the song ‘Christmas’ from ‘Tommy,’ atechnician knocked one of the microphones, causing a slight problemwith the audio which is rectified with two minutes
.
"

Blijkbaar is A Quick One While He’s Away niet helemaal op de DVD te zien. Het stuk na Ivor The Engine Driver ontbreekt.

De DVD verschijnt op 18 november.

East Rutherford (29 oktober)

Our Islamic brothers don’t like music very much". There was this snotty kid named Bruce watching the show…and then, a few years later, we were the snot-nosed kids watching him."

"Roger sounded suprisingly good, and Pete’s voice sounds good still too. Can’t complain much about the setlist, it was great to hear Sister Disco. The best part of the night, by far, was the Tommy encore. They really came to life with Amazing Journey and Sparks…"
"Absolutely NO screens at all showing the band performing, which Ifound extremly odd and cheap. Izod is a big arena, and I’m sure the 12,000 or so people who were farther away from the stage than me would have
liked some screens. So basically the Who didn’t spring for a few extra screens. At $220 a ticket it’s surprising to me that it was such a low budget production"
"I thought it was a great performance. Roger was in top form and sound as good as ever. He only stumbled when in the beginning of tea and theater, but they started it up again and were fine. love reign o’er me was incredible!"
"What can I say but I was blessed to see another Who show. The mix was a little bottom heavy, but the boys kicked ass. Again Roger started loosing his voice at about one hour into the show and was able to compensate by singing in lower register. His higher notes were all cracking. Pete was in fine form, as always and he was in great spirits cracking jokes and just seeming to be having a great time"

Artikel over het GP concert in Melbourne

Autosport.com heeft een artikel geplaatst over het concert dat The Who op 29 maart 2009 zal geven tijdens de Grand Prix in Melbourne. Het concert zal plaats vinden in het Albert Park.

"This is a special occasion for us to come and be with you guys at the time of the Grand Prix. KISS did it last year and we hear they played to big crowds, but we hope to see an even bigger crowd when we hit Melbourne in March", aldus Pete.

Gesignaleerd: Pete

Pete_nyGawker.com meldt op hun "stalker-pagina" dat Pete gisteren gesignaleerd is in New York.

"Pete Townshend dressed in a suit, leaving the Carlyle and signing autographs before getting into his waiting town car. While waiting for the light to change at Park, rolls down the window to slap the hand of a passing homeless-man-on-bicycle, who says "Hey, Peter! Good to see you, man!"

Philadelphia (26 oktober)

Sister Disco werd door Pete opgedragen aan de familie van Meg Fox ("thank you Meg Fox Family and Philly for all coming out!").

Long Beach riep: "This is a FUCKING rock & roll concert, not a fucking tea party!!", waarop Roger zei: "I’ve had enough tea tonight!". Daarna liet Pete het publiek scanderen: "Pete, you’re the man!".

Reacties van fans:
"Just got  back. Roger’s  voice was amazing, Pete was discussing the financial situation, talked about  the great depression, says that with all lost people still had some money for  coke. The guys looked like they were happy and having a great time. They seem  to be getting better every time i see them"

The Who op de F1 Grand Prix

That was back before you people got a sense of humour. I mean, a bottle of beer at 10 o’clock in the morning and they deported us. We were filthy rock and rollers. I remember the stewards called our road manager a scruffy little man.He took umbrage because he was actually married to quite an aristocratic English lady"
