Pete over The Beatles

"The Beatles did not grow up. They stopped making records at a point where what they were doing was incredibly interesting and potentially very, very mature. They worked as solo artists, obviously, but xe2x80″ as a band xe2x80″ they stopped.
Yet, therexe2x80x99s something universal about that music and The Beatlesxe2x80x99 appeal that will go on for a long time to come, in spite of their not being here. Because they were driven by a real passion, which is still evident, and were endlessly innovative. They put an awful lot into the music and it lives on

Mika over Pete

"I had tea with Pete Townsend and [his partner] Rachel Fuller just as I was about to start making the album and Townsend looks at me and says, ‘You’re nervous aren’t you.’ I tried to deny it but I couldn’t. He said, ‘All you have to think of now is: rely on your art and the craft will come,’ and you know what? It really helped".

"I didnxe2x80x99t think Ixe2x80x99d ever play again. The band wasnxe2x80x99t the same withouthim. I just packed it in. He was such a funny guy xe2x80″ you never knew whatwas going to happen next with him".

Hier meldt hij ook dat The Who voorlopig geen opvoering van Quadrophenia zal doen: "I think in the end my aspirations as a composer and writer for the theatre proved more powerful than my desire to play this wonderful music on stage with the Who. The Who version may happen again, but not for some years now."
