Op de Delaware County Daily Times staat een artikel over het nieuws dat The Who in 2015 gaat stoppen met de grote tours. De schrijver van het artikel vindt echter dat de band niet zo moet zeuren.
“The ridiculous whining about the rigors of the road — this isn’t an outfit that is hitting the streets in a busted-down tour van — are beyond laughable, but talking about the end of touring? That’s a bit suspicious. Remember, this is a unit that announced a farewell tour more than 30 years ago. It lasted about seven years before a wildly successful “reunion” tour in 1989 (…) .
At the time, Townshend defended the reunion by telling Guitar Player magazine, “What you’re hearing today is not the Who. It’s a sophisticated bunch of session musicians who, because of the way they’ve been picked and the way they’ve evolved in the relationship to me through my work as a writer, feel very deeply about what they’re doing.”
Yet he had no problem calling it The Who, and while Daltrey is right about being realistic about aging, the band has cried wolf before, so don’t hedge your bets on 2015 being the end of the road“.
