“My Generation” begint rond 5 minuten, “I’m A Boy” rond 34 minuten.

Videoboodschap van Pete

Dit weekend had The Who moeten optreden tijdens het iHeartRadio Festival.

“Sadly, the rock legends had to cancel their festival appearance (and postpone their entire North American tour) due to singer Roger Daltrey’s viral meningitis, but they were still there in spirit. Guitarist Pete Townshend delivered a heartfelt pre-taped apology for the band’s no-show, then footage of the Who’s recent Hyde Park “Baba O’Reilly” performance played on the big screen. Honestly, it was a more enjoyable moment that some of the actual live performances that took place at iHeart’s teenage wasteland this Friday

Simon: “Roger aan de beterende hand”

Simon Townshend schrijft in een blog op zijn site dat hij gisteren Roger bezocht heeft. Hij zou aan de beterende hand zijn.

“Firstly, I have to say I spoke with Roger today and although he has really been through it lately he sounds like he may have turned a corner and is finally on the road to recovery. Thank you to all the fans who have been in touch today and over the past few weeks wishing him well and for the understanding re the postponement of The Who’s US tour, despite your obvious disappointment. Believe me, no one is more upset than the band themselves particularly Roger“.

Roger heeft hersenvliesontsteking: hele tour uitgesteld

The Who maakt vandaag bekend op hun website dat de hele tour door Noord-Amerika uitgesteld wordt.

“THE WHO today confirmed that they are postponing all remaining dates on their “THE WHO HITS 50!” North American tour.  They had initially postponed FOUR shows on doctors orders after Roger Daltrey contracted a mystery virus.  Initially it was hoped that the rest of the tour might proceed, but after extensive tests the seriousness of his condition became apparent when doctors diagnosed Roger as having viral Meningitis and prescribed a period of rest.

The band apologize to fans and realize that the postponement will cause an inconvenience for ticketholders.  It wasn’t a decision taken lightly–THE WHO always give their fans 100% and were never going to compromise the show, but ultimately the band had no alternative but to postpone the tour.

Roger was particularly disappointed as he had been especially looking forward to the Teen Cancer America benefit in Los Angeles, a charity that he and THE WHO have worked tirelessly for. Thankfully he is already getting better and said, “We are very sorry to disappoint our fans in this way.  For the last four weeks, I have been in and out of the hospital and have been diagnosed with viral Meningitis. I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better but I am going to need a considerable time to recover.  The doctors tell me I will make a complete recovery, but that I should not do any touring this year.”

Pete Townshend added, “We are rescheduling all the shows for next Spring 2016. We apologize to all our fans who have supported us in the last 50 years. Once Roger is completely well we will come back stronger than ever and Roger and I will give you all a show to remember.”

Top 10 Woodstock optredens

Ultimate Classic Rock heeft een top 10 van Woodstock optredens gemaakt. The Who staat met “My Generation” op nummer 7. Daarnaast vinden we in de lijst o.a. Santana, Richie Havens, Canned Heat en Jimi Hendrix (op 1).

“The Who were touring ‘Tommy’ when they played Woodstock at daybreak Sunday morning. So most of their set — which ran for a little more than an hour — consisted of an abbreviated run-through of their rock opera plus a few of their older classics. The highlight comes near the end, as the band tears into a seven-minute version of ‘My Generation’ that erupts in a fiery display of guitar heroics by Pete Townshend“.
